Description

City Neighbors Charter School, opened in 2005, and now serves 216 students K - 8. In response for the demand for progressive education, we have opened two more schools to include City Neighbors Hamilton, in its fourth year and serving students in kindergarten through sixth grades (expanding gradually to become a K - 8 school), and City Neighbors High School, (est. 2010) the first truly progressive high school in the Baltimore City Public School system serving 286 students.

Project based learning, arts integration and inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia in Italy, our schools are a model for innovation in public education.

Now, solidly in the middle of its eighth year, City Neighbors holds an important position in the charter and public school world. Beginning as a grassroots movement among a group of city neighbors in the summer of 2003, we have been leading the way for great public education – not only at our schools, but for all children in Baltimore City.

We have always felt a calling beyond our own students, a calling that led us to serve as trailblazers and leaders in the public school world, and that thrust us into leadership roles and as partners in systemic change. City Neighbors fought hard to open its doors, but it never lost sight of its larger calling--and the calling of all charter schools--in that fight: to serve as a model and a challenge to all schools to meet the ideals of education. The City Neighbors Foundation now supports the three City Neighbors Schools, and creates events and institutes to impact public education in Baltimore.
