URBAN OUTREACH Arizona (Urban Outreach) is a non-profit program of the Tempe First United Methodist Church (TFUMC) that strives to help homeless people move from a state of crisis to a state of stability, in a respectful environment.
Urban Outreach facilitates and provides vital support services which address the basic needs of individuals including food, shelter, showers, medical, mental and spiritual health, along with coordination of care with other local organizations.
TFUMC has been providing housing and emergency lodging assistance for homeless individuals since its inception in 1882, and it has grown to become the only day resource center for homeless adults in Tempe. A central tenet of Urban Outreach is to treat people who find themselves homeless with respect and kindness. Combined with our history of helping homeless adults and the professionalism of our staff, volunteers and community partners, have resulted in a program in which homeless and near homeless individuals feel safe and welcome to receive services.
Although Urban Outreach is operated by the church, no religious proselytizing or education occurs in this program. We serve people of all faiths, and there are no religious requirements to receive services. Our purpose is to serve those who need help.
