Founded in 2009, Blue Engine partners with public high schools serving low-income communities to prepare dramatically greater numbers of students for postsecondary success. At its core, Blue Engine recruits, trains, and supports Blue Engine Teaching Assistants – talented recent college graduates who provide individualized instruction and reduce student-to-instructor ratios to help students build the academic skills and behaviors required to succeed in college-level coursework.
The best part? It's working. In 2012-2013, Blue Engine increased college readiness on New York state exit exams by 61%. Recognized by President Obama and the New York Times as a high-impact education service model, Blue Engine's 52 teaching assistants are currently supporting over 1,000 students across five public high schools in New York City.
