Ethiopian Education Foundation - EEF (www.ethio-ed.org) provides excellent secondary schooling for severely under-privileged yet motivated and academically promising students in Ethiopia, helping them reach their full academic potential and enabling them to enter university and to drive real change in Ethiopia.
EEF stands out as a small, focused charity, wasting nothing on administration and achieving measurable life changing results. The charity was started by 3 friends 8 years ago following a trip that introduced them to a world in Ethiopia where otherwise talented and driven street children and orphans are forgotten and never given the chance to reach their full potential. Motivated by a passion to cause positive change in the country, over the past 7 years EEF has given 154 children a secondary school education and with it the knowledge and skills that they believe will change not only the students' lives but also the fortunes of one of Africa's poorest nations. Today the charity is fully staffed by passionate volunteers who share the same vision for change in Ethiopia.
Each child is mentored through the 4 year programme by matching them with motivated, hand picked individual sponsors; the children are given housing and all materials. This structure gives the children a sense of protection and encourages an environment where they can excel in their studies. The results speak for themselves, after 7 years all 76 graduates have secured state funded university places and 16 of them study medicine. An achievement we are immensely proud of! Four students have secured fully funded four year scholarships at New York University in Abu Dhabi.
