The Danang Union of Friendship Organizations

1. Foundation:

- On January 28^th, 1995, The Quangnam - Danang Union of Friendship Organizations was founded by the Decision No 99/QD-UB of Quangnam-Danang People’s Committee. Mr. Nguyen Dinh An was the Chairman, from 1995 to July 2009. In 1997, the Quangnam – Danang Union of Friendship Organizations was renamed the Danang Union of Friendship Organizations.

- On July 16^th- 17^th, 2009, an Executive Board of 33 members chaired by Mr. Huynh Duc Truong was accredited in the third Congress, the 2009 - 2014 term of the Danang Union of Friendship Organizations.

Currently, the Danang Union of Friendship Organizations has 10 member Associations:

- The Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Danang City;

- The Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association of Danang City;

- The Vietnam - China Friendship Association of Danang City;

- The Vietnam - Japan Friendship Association of Danang City;

- The Vietnam - America Friendship Association of Danang City;

- The Vietnam - France Friendship Association of Danang City;

- The Vietnam - Germany Friendship Association of Danang City;

- The Vietnam - South Korea Friendship Association of Danang City;

- The Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association of Danang City;

- The Peace Committee of Danang City.

November 17^th, 1950 is the Traditional Day of People-to-people Diplomacy Sector.

2. Functions and tasks of the Danang Union of Friendship Organizations and the member Associations

2.1. Functions

The Danang Union of Friendship Organizations is a socio-political organization, in charge of people-to-people diplomacy for peace, solidarity, friendship, and cooperation of Vietnamese people in general, Danang people in particular with people from other countries and with international NGOs. The Danang Union of Friendship Organizations, led by the Danang Party Committee and the People’s Committee of Danang, is a member of the Danang Fatherland Front Committee.

2.2. Tasks:

- Carry out friendship and cooperation activities to:

+ Enhance, consolidate and develop solidarity and cooperation, support and build bridges for diplomatic, political, economic, cultural, educational and tourism activities of Danang city with other localities of different countries in the world.

+ Give international friends a more comprehensive understanding of Vietnam and its people; enlist supports of people from all over the world to the cause of the national construction and protection, its territorial sovereignty. To raise awareness of the people of Danang about the diplomatic policies of Vietnam, world news and global issues.

+ Support just struggles of people in other countries; contribute to common struggles for peace, national independence, democracy, economic development, social progress and encourage peaceful solutions to global problems.

- Act as the focal agency to contact INGOs and mobilize INGO aid for the socio-economic development of Danang.

- Encourage the oversea Vietnamese communities, especially Danang people living abroad to think about their home town and enthusiastically contribute to the development of the city.

- Guide the member Associations; coordinate with local agencies to carry out people-to-people diplomacy activities effectively in accordance with the direction of the city.
