About Us

To Champion a More Literate Community in San Diego County by Providing Creative Leadership for New and Existing Literacy Efforts. The San Diego Council on Literacy is a coalition coordinating the efforts of over 23 literacy programs in San Diego County. Our program partners provide adult, children's and family literacy services; one to one tutoring and group instruction; and English as a Second Language, GED and Basic Education courses, all free to the public. The Challenge... San Diego County is home to 450,000 adults who possess only minimal literacy skills. Many of these adults are parents who are limited in their ability to support their children in early educational experiences. As a result, these children are at risk for illiteracy. Adults and children both need your help. Join the San Diego Council on Literacy in creating a more literate community!
