About Us

The North Carolina LiteracyCorps, an AmeriCorps program hosted by the Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education, is a cohort of 38 AmeriCorps members serving to increase the capacity and direct service impact of North Carolina’s campus and community-based literacy programs. Currently, 18 full-time, 8 half-time, and 12 minimum-time AmeriCorps members who serve on college campuses and community sites throughout North Carolina. Our priority service areas include providing skills development training such as adult basic education (ABE), general educational development (GED), and English to speakers of other languages (ESOL) to economically disadvantaged adults; recruiting, training, and supporting volunteer literacy tutors; and increasing literacy skills in K-12 students.
