Description

Deep, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in downtown Savannah, Georgia, was founded in 2008 to address the problem of illiteracy in our city. Our mission is to help kids share their stories fluently, confidently, and courageously.

Specifically, we aim to

  1. Help kids, aged 8-18 (a.k.a., DeepKids) improve their writing skills and produce something of a publishable quality.
  2. Help teachers get their students excited about writing because they are proud of their ideas and their hard work.
  3. Encourage our DeepKids' voicesby publishing their work(s) and sharing it with the community.

Since 2008, Deep has served more than 1200 students, trained 80 Writing Fellows, produced 42 anthologies of student writing, and published a successful middle school curriculum. On average, DeepKids perform 20% better on the state writing assessment.
