About Us

PBI is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) that was founded in 1981. PBI has more than 30 years of experience in international accompaniment and has maintained a permanent presence in Mexico since 1999. The organization is currently registered with the United Nations.


PBI's mandate is to create space for peace and to protect human rights. PBI provides support and protection to at-risk human rights defenders (HRDs) through international accompaniment and observation; advocacy and support network building; collection, analysis and dissemination of information on the human rights situation; and capacity building in security and protection.


In Mexico, PBI currently maintains two regional field teams based in Chihuahua and Oaxaca, and a Coordination Office in Mexico City.
