About Us

Mission

To reduce the number of children living ont the streets of Sierra Leone, once the poorest country in the world.

Overview

Street Child of Sierra Leone (or commonly referred to as Street Child) was founded in 2008 in response to the UN delcaration that Sierra Leone was then the poorest country in the world.

It is a UK-based charity employing local people in Sierra Leone to manage and oversee our projects.

Our goal is to reduce the number of children living on the streets of Sierra Leone

Street child works to care for children living on the street, to reconcile them with their families and communities; and to ultimately give them long-term hope by supporting their academic or vocational education.

At the same time, we are working with communities and authorities in Makeni town, the capital of the Northern province which is one of the poorest in the country, to help them care for their children better; to build capacity and desire to protect children’s rights – and ultimately to attempt to stem the flow of children to the streets.
We are also targeting isolated, rural communities to construct fully-equipped school buildings as well as providing teacher-training services so that children in these areas can finally gain access to education.
