Description

KAREis a U.S. nonprofit and registered Kenya NGO that uses a grassroots approach to alleviate poverty, empower women and local indigenous communities, and build ecological and economical sustainable solutions to extreme poverty in semi-arid landscapes in rural East Africa. At KARE, we value and respect local cultures, traditions and lifestyles and believe that all people have a right to basic needs such as food, clean water, security, health care, education, and a healthy environment. Our proven track record has made a transformative impact on hundreds of fanilies, communities, and individual lives.

We strive to 'Leave No Cultural Footprint', while working to provide the resources and opportunities for people to help themselves, advocate for their basic human rights and safety, and help empower them to survive inthis drought stricken region. By providing the tools they need to change their own lives, they are better able to adapt to a changing climate and meet their own needs for food, medical care, school fees, and water. This approach allows them to survive and thrive in a rapidly changing world while preserving their cultural heritage.

On a community level, KARE helps help build schools and equip classrooms, develop rural clinics and medical response teams, build water wells for safe drinking water and sanitation, and provide economically and ecologically sound resources and capacity-building opportunities that promotesustainability and resiliency.
