About Us

Since the 2004 Tsunami GHRE has been addressing the long term needs of marginalised Burmese workers and their families in Phang Nga province. There are around 100,000 in Phang Nga alone! Most migrant children are unable to access the Thai educational system. GHRE made tackling this issue a priority and are now providing a free education to over 700 migrant children through our 8 learning centres and 2 nurseries. It is also incredibly difficult for undocumented migrants in Thailand to access proper health care so GHRE provide free medical assistance, counselling, health education and check ups at the learning centres and around 70 different communities in the area that live on rubber plantations. We also provide a temporary shelter for emergency cases, run a womens empowerment project and a Community Child Care Centre for displaced children. Our Public Relations and legal aid team also work to diffuse any tension between a Burmese migrant and the police, whilst also working towards the integration of Thai and Burmese. The documentation of Human Rights abuses both here and in Burma, as well as Human Rights and leadership training workshops for children and adults are also a top priority for GHRE.
