About Us

Established in the fall of 1999 by major Washington-area corporations and foundations, DC-CAP is a privately-funded, nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging and enabling DC public and public charter high school students to enroll and graduate from college. In partnership with the DC Public School (DCPS) and DC public charter school systems, DC-CAP provides direct counseling and financial assistance to students who might otherwise never have the opportunity to go to college. The overwhelming majority of students served by DC-CAP are from low-income, minority, single-parent households and are the first in their families to attend college. Since its inception, DC-CAP has helped more than 24,500 students to enroll in college, awarded almost $36,000,000 in scholarships and celebrated the success of 7,300 college graduates who otherwise would have never had the opportunity for higher education.
