Founded in 2011 as a partnership between schools and families, Families for Excellent Schools (FES) works to build power in communities by engaging parents in the transformation of their school systems. FES's mission is to harness the power of families to advance policies and political changes that create and sustain excellent schools. As an organization, FES envisions a future where public will and public policy guarantee an excellent education for every child. FES operates Families for Excellent Schools, Inc. (a 501 (c) 3 entity) and Families for Excellent Schools-Advocacy (a 501 (c) 4 entity). Currently, FES serves 50,000 families from 75 schools in New York and Connecticut. A leading innovator in education advocacy work, FES seeks to serve three times as many families, expand to Massachusetts, and grow a national fellowship program by 2016.
