We unite families facing physical separation by facilitating the bonding experience of reading aloud together.
OUR VISION
All children will feel the security of caring family relationships and develop a love of reading through the read-aloud experience.
Since 1989, United Through Reading has helped over 346,000 people experience the magic of reading aloud with the help of youth and adult volunteers who have contributed over 224,000 hours.
MILITARY PROGRAM
The United Through Reading Military Program keeps military families strong and connected during deployments through the read-aloud experience. Deployed military service members read aloud to children on DVDs which, when mailed home, enable their families to actively share in this vital connection. The benefits are powerful and positive. Available to the families of service members in every branch of the armed forces and at select USO sites around the globe, More than 220,000 military personnel and their families have benefited from the United Through Reading Military Program since its inception.

INMATE PROGRAM
This program is designed to benefit children of incarcerated parents who are experiencing a difficult separation and a possible lack of literacy support in the home. Through educational workshops and the medium of reading aloud on DVD, parents can remain connected with or re-connect with their children during their incarceration.
