The American Montessori Society (AMS), with over 13,000 members, is the world's foremost advocate for quality Montessori education. Based in New York City, AMS is a nonprofit professional and service organization working on behalf of schools, classroom teachers, teacher educators, parents, students, alumni and the broader child development and educational communities.
AMS is dedicated to advancing Montessori philosophy and best practices as universal principles of human development.
This mission is fulfilled by:
• Developing, supporting and accrediting Montessori programs; • Educating and certifying teachers; • Maintaining and disseminating Montessori information and educational best practices via seminars/symposia, periodicals, videos, a membership web site and through the formation of strategic partnerships; • Researching and publication of Montessori theories and practices; and, • Promoting the Montessori community's role in shaping the nation's education agenda.
The Society's leadership features a blend of institutional knowledge and forward-looking perspectives that will usher Montessori education into its next century of existence.
