The Small-Scale Sustainable Infrastructure Development Fund, Inc. (S3IDF) (www.s3idf.org) is a small Cambridge-based non-profit 501c(3) organization that reduces poverty in developing countries by expanding access to basic infrastructure services (such energy, water, sanitation, transport, and telecommunications) through the creation and strengthening of small-scale enterprises. To create these enterprises, we bundle business, technical and financing assistance to make it possible for local entrepreneurs to succeed. All of the enterprises that S3IDF supports benefit the poor as owners, operators, and/or customers.
S3IDF works closely with our non-profit Indian affiliate, S3IDF-India, to develop and implement projects. In addition, S3IDF works to bring its unique approach of bundling services and supporting small-scale enterprises, known as the Social Merchant Bank ApproachSM, to new regions. S3IDF operates primarily in South India, but we are working to expand to new areas in India and are currently pursuing activities in Nepal and opportunities in other developing countries.
