Organization Mission and Programming
The Theater Offensive began in 1989 in response to the founders' experiences as activist members of underserved, marginalized communities. Throughout its history, TTO has furthered its mission 'to form and present the diverse realities of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) lives in art so bold it breaks through personal isolation and political orthodoxy to help build a more honest, progressive community.'
Now in its 23rd year, TTO's new 3-year strategic plan unifies all programming with one clear initiative: OUT in Your Neighborhood. This initiative is based on the simple conviction that people deserve to feel at home where they live. TTO is increasing its focus on creating art by and for community members, and increasing community-based programming and productions in the target neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain and the South End.
