About us

The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), a social change organization, is dedicated to creating a social, political and economic environment in which violence against women no longer exists.

NNEDV is the leading voice for domestic violence victims and their advocates. As a membership and advocacy organization of state domestic violence coalitions, allied organizations and supportive individuals, NNEDV works closely with its members to understand the ongoing and emerging needs of domestic violence victims and advocacy programs. Then NNEDV makes sure those needs are heard and understood by policymakers at the national level.

NNEDV's project, WomensLaw, provides easy-to-understand legal information and resources to women living with or escaping domestic violence or sexual assault. By reaching out through the Internet, WomensLaw.org empowers women and girls to lead independent lives, free from abuse. WomensLaw.org was founded in February 2000 and became a project of NNEDV in 2010.

WomensLaw.org provides:

  • step-by-step instructions for obtaining restraining orders, listings for local assistance, links to court forms, and legal statutes for 54 states and US territories
  • domestic violence legal information for teens, LGBTQ, immigrants, military spouses, and Native Americans
  • legal information on custody, parental kidnapping, divorce and gun laws
  • safety planning and Internet security information
  • an Email Hotline providing direct support and specific information to victims, their friends and family, and advocates and other professionals.
