Artspace serves as the creative hub for a community of over 500 artists who live and work in Greater New Haven. Our socially and culturally diverse audiences visit our space with a range of cultural appetites, interests and needs that we strive to respond to and stimulate. Founded in 1987 by a group of local artists, Artspace has evolved significantly over the past thirty years and expanded to its current location-- mid-way between the dowtnown train station and Yale University-- to make room for a multi-faceted program spanning challenging exhibitions, public commissions, performances, talks and other educational initiatives and professional workshops for artists, as well as an annual artist-in-residency. PRoud of our roots as part of the alternative space movement, we are committed to providing local, regional and international artist at all stages in theri careers with the physical platform, curatorial framework, mentorpship and financial support necessary to pursue formative, risky and socialyl-engaged projects.
