About us

The Conservancy's mission is to ensure conservation, stewardship, access, and enjoyment of the Chesapeake's iconic landscapes and waterways and its cultural and historic assets, highlighted by the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and the Chesapeake Gateways and Watertrails Network. The Conservancy is the National Park Service's principal partner in implementing the Trail and in efforts to connect the public to opportunities to explore and experience the Chesapeake Watershed through the Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Network. The Conservancy has also forged partnerships with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, NOAA, National Geographic, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and other governments, businesses, public-interest groups, and citizens to advance its mission.
