AmeriCorps St. Louis (www.americorps-stl.org) is a National Service Program that engages Americans in intensive service to address critical unmet needs in education and public safety. Our program consists of a City-Wide Service Team that partners with the Mayor's office to enhance youth engagement, and an Emergency Response Team that is one of AmeriCorps' largest and most active. Members of both teams give 11 months of full-time service and, in return, receive a living allowance of $11,100 and an education award of $4,725.
Emergency Response Team Members spend a year assisting disaster affected communities, fighting wildfires, and conserving natural resources with a team of young people committed to making a difference. The ERT is a multi-functional rapid deployment group that has been called out nationally to floods, NASA search and rescue, ice storms, terrorist attacks, tornadoes, wildfires, and most recently hurricanes. When not involved in disaster response or preparedness activities, the ERT assists the Missouri Departments of Conservation and Natural Resources, the U.S. Forest Service, and National Park Service with trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and other natural resource projects.
We also have a strong Member development component. In addition to regular program-sponsored gatherings, Members are offered other evening and weekend service opportunities that develop leadership and project planning skills.
Now in its fourteenth year, AmeriCorps St. Louis has a proven history of providing highly successful programs, partnerships, and trainings, making it a model to other programs around the state and country. The Emergency Response Team and City-Wide Service Team together have 40 Members who come from all over the country to create our tightly knit community.
