About Us

Overview: Founded in 1851, San Francisco Unified School District educates approximately 55,000 of San Francisco's pre-school, elementary, middle and high schools with the philosophy 'every child can learn.' Mission: The mission of the San Francisco Unified School District is to provide each student with an equal opportunity to succeed by promoting intellectual growth, creativity, self-discipline, cultural and linguistic sensitivity, democratic responsibility, economic competence, and physical and mental health so that each student can achieve his or her maximum potential.

San Francisco Unified School District's strategic plan, Beyond the Talk: Taking Action to Educate Every Child Now, emphasizes making social justice a reality by diminishing the predictive power of demographics. We are committed to closing the existing achievement gap and promoting the success of all students through focused attention on three core areas: Access and Equity, Achievement, and Accountability.
