Village of Wisdom

Village of Wisdom is an innovative non-profit organization established in 2014 and based in Durham, North Carolina. VOW exists to liberate and protect the intellectual curiosity and positive racial self-concept of Black Learners (Black Genius®) by co-creating culturally affirming learning environments. We work to amplify the cultural strengths of the families of Black youth as they work to wrap their children in the love and wisdom necessary to navigate and persist towards academic and life success. The core components of our approach are:

• Translating Black Parent Wisdom we develop, implement, and validate tools to transform schools from culturally-oppressive institutions to environments that recognize and affirm the genius of Black children and their families.
• Building Black Parent Power we engage and align with parents, families, and partner organizations to amplify community interdependence.
• Modeling Black Parent Love we cultivate and support opportunities to share positive images and stories about Black people.
