The St. James English as a Second Language program in Mt. Raininer, MD facilitates nighttime ESL classes taught by committed volunteers drawn from Prince George's County and beyond. Classes are for adults only (18+) and we seek to provide a friendly environment for our students (who often find the prospect of returning to school daunting) and an informal, low-stress environment for our teachers. Although everyone is welcome, students are typically from Mexico or Central America. We believe that a successful ESL class includes not just the teaching of English, but also an opportunity for students and teachers to learn from each others' cultural backgrounds and life experiences.
