About Us

The Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) seeks to foster knowledge of Middle Eastern and Islamic societies and cultures worldwide, not only for its scholarly value but also for its potential in addressing the region's long-standing economic, political, and other challenges.

CMES administers four degree programs (Joint PhD programs in history, history of art and architecture, and anthropology, as well as an AM program), engages in multiple research projects, hosts international visiting researchers, offers an array of publications, seminars, and conferences. As a Comprehensive National Resource Center for Middle East Studies under Title VI, CMES is home to The Outreach Center, which provides professional development, resources (including a small library for public use), and custom consultation for K-12 educators and others.

More information about CMES can be found at https://cmes.fas.harvard.edu/.
