Stage to Stage, Inc. dba the Crescent City Lights Youth Theater transforms the lives of young people in the Greater New Orleans area by providing performing arts programming that foster the learning of performing arts and life skills in a nurturing multi-cultural environment through instruction by professionals in the theater arts.
In partnership with the City of New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC), CCLYT holds 2 annual musical productions at the NORD Ty Tracy Theatre in Gallier Hall. Children ages 8-17 audition by application only, which is designed to show the child's level of ability & interest in theater. Experience is not required. Each session consists of 6 public performances with 20-30 young people who are instructed by artistic staff members, local professionals in their specific fields. Performances are held for summer camp child audiences with added on-site master classes taught by college interns. Reach: 60 youth performers and 2700 summer campers and public audience members.
CCLYT was begun to address the lack of opportunity in the community for children of middle & lower income levels to receive quality performing arts training at an affordable cost. This is especially important for children from low income families with limited exposure to the arts. Instruction in drama is lacking in the public school system. Families with talented children do not know where to go to develop the dramatic skills in their child.
CCLYT is the only organization in New Orleans devoted to providing talented children a professional musical theater experience from audition to rehearsal to performance while learning the skills necessary for success in school and in life.
The children LOVE being a part of CCLYT which provides a supportive performing arts home with a new like-minded social circle!
For the community, we provide high quality family entertainment. For families of the cast members, we provide a chance to be proud of their child's accomplishments.
Alumni credit their confidence and the commitment needed to pursue their dream and set them on the track for success to their early exposure to the theater. Many of our students attend NOCCA, (New Orleans' performing arts high school), perform in their high school productions and receive scholarships to colleges with majors in the arts or English. Numerous alumni are working in the arts as professionals.
