International Career Advancement Program (ICAP)

Since 1997 the International Career Advancement Program (ICAP) has helped to bring greater diversity to the staffing of senior management and policy-making positions in international public service, both in the government and for private non-profit organizations. Its goal is to assist highly promising mid-career professionals from underrepresented groups in advancing to more senior positions in international affairs

The program accepts applications from mid-level professionals during the spring each year. Applicants should be professions who:

• Have a demonstrated commitment to increasing the diversity of senior leadership in the United States in international affairs

• Are US citizens or permanent residents

• Are professionals who have been or are now in international careers, with 3 to 15 years work experience

• Have an interest in a long-term career in international affairs

• Have credentials and achievements that demonstrate potential to serve in the highest levels of administration and policy making

• Have recommendations indicating unusual promise for leadership

• Are committed to mentoring those junior to them in international affairs
