Beyond Chacay Foundation, a 501c3 registered in the state of Texas, introduces American, Canadian and European tourists to entrepreneurs and community change agents in marginalized Ecuadorian communities, enabling the latter through education and networking to create shared value by investing in microenterprise. Target projects include, for example, the transformation of Ecuadorian cacao, recognized internationally for its aroma, into chocolate bon bons, and based on the principle of reciprocity, implementing a successful business through the creation of a business, marketing and operations plan, branding, and the creation of websites. The tourist becomes a Chasqui, based on the Inca messenger tradition, and takes the finished product and the message back to his or her community, thus providing sustainability to the model.
