About Us

Founded in 1989, Sakhi for South Asian Women (Sakhi) exists to represent the South Asian diaspora in a survivor-led movement for gender-justice and to honor the collective and inherent power of all survivors of violence. Sakhi is committed to serving survivors through a combination of efforts including—but not limited to—direct services, advocacy and organizing, technical assistance, and community outreach.

At Sakhi, we unite survivors, communities, and institutions to eradicate violence as we work together to create strong and healthy communities. Since its inception, Sakhi has served thousands of survivors of violence, mobilized community change toward abuse, and enhanced institutions to better serve both survivors and the South Asian community. Sakhi is recognized as a local, regional, and national leader in its field.
