There are 1.3 billion people in the world that do not have access to electricity.
Light Up The World (LUTW) is working to change that by providing sustainable energy to remote communities as a catalyst for sustainable development. Many people living in rural villages are living in poverty and when the sun sets, people have to find other ways to light their homes so they can cook, study and work.Sustainable energy and clean light at the flick of a switch can help families save money, live in a safer and healthier home environment, and expand opportunities for education and economic development.
Working in some of the most remote and undeserved areas in the world, LUTW trains local technicians and builds the capacity of local service providers to transition to a sustainable future.LUTW has worked with over 220 partner organizations to bring solar power to communities in 54 countries, but there is still much work to be done.
LUTW is currently working in the Highland and Amazon regions of Peru, the Western Highlands of Guatemala, Papua New Guinea and the Talamanca region of Costa Rica. These projects help indigenous communities increase their resilience and autonomy, helping to support traditional livelihoods and protect the environment that they are dependent upon.
