Organization's Mission and Goals: Founded in 1969, Dynamy is a nonprofit in Worcester, MA whose programs help students learn the skills for success in higher education and life--for creating the life they wish to lead.Hands-on, real world (experiential) education and strong mentoring are the foundations of both our programs. Each uses adventure challenges, internships, community action, personal advising and reflective learning.
Our first program, Dynamy Internship Year (DIY) is a personalized Gap Year for students who want to learn differently, through hands-on learning in the real world. Students ages 17 to 22 come from across the country for full-time internships, an adventure challenge, apartment living, community service, workshops and college seminars. Internship Year students are high school graduates, and some have completed a year or two of college. Over 85% of Internship Year graduates go on to college, with a high percentage pursuing advanced degrees. The program is funded through tuition, with need-based financial aid available.
Our second program, Dynamy Youth Academy (DYA), is an afterschool college success and leadership program for talented, low-income, Worcester public school students who are eager to go to college, but who are at risk of not reaching their full potential. Students are first-generation college students, and must meet income eligibility guidelines. The program is grant-funded and no-cost for participants.
DYA students receive four plus years of intensive services designed to support, motivate, and challenge them to stay in school and prepare for higher education. They participate in internships, community service, individual advising, leadership training, academic enrichment activities, college preparation activities and adventure challenges. The program is at
