Rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition, Assumption College strives to form graduates known for critical intelliegence, thoughtful citizenship and compassionate service. Enlivened by the Catholic affirmation of the harmony of faith and reason, Assumption College aims, by the pursuit of the truth, to transform the minds and hearts of students. Assumption favors diversity and ecumenically welcomes all who share its goals.
Assumption College is located in Worcester, Massachusetts, New England's second largest city, approximately 50 minutes west of Boston and home to 12 colleges and more than 20,000 students. The campus is nestled on 185 park-like acres in a safe and serene section of the city, approximately three miles from downtown. Located in the heart of New England, Worcester is listed on Forbes.com as one of the top-ten most livable cities in the country and five-time recipient of the All-America City Award.
Assumption is a vital college and its involvement in Worcester and the surrounding community sets the standard for local colleges. The undergraduates spent more than 70,000 hours in local community service through Community Service Learning courses, Campus Ministry, and the Reach Out Center. When considering the activities of graduate students, faculty and staff, the volunteer hours rise to 117,000. This is one of the reasons that Assumption was again named to the 2012 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the federal government's highest recognition for community engagement, for the second consecutive year.
Graduate programs include: Counseling Psychology specializing in CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy), Rehabilitation Counseling (on-line and on-campus programs), School Counseling including Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor, Special Education, and MBA including an Early-Career Track MBA with a Professional Practice concentration designed for college grads with a liberal arts background or degree.
Ranked in the U.S. News Best Colleges ratings of approximately 200 universitites in the North that offer bachelor's and master's degrees (most recent ranking at the time of publication: #34 in 2012), and is also recognized as one of the best colleges in the Northeast by the Princeton Review.
