About Us

Respond and Rebuild's mission is to help rebuild NYC homes affected by Hurricane Sandy. Currently, we focus primarily on mold removal in the Rockaways while simultaneously providing public information and training for homeowners. The founders of Respond and Rebuild have over 30 cumulative years' experience in addressing the urgent needs of disaster-affected communities across the globe and are experts in field work, logistics coordination, and community building. Formed in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Respond and Rebuild has turned this expertise into a complete program suitable to working in disaster conditions in New York City. Community empowerment is an integral piece of the high impact disaster recovery process and part of our mission is community outreach and education through seminars and trainings. Volunteers are essential to Respond & Rebuild’s role on the peninsula. Since Hurricane Sandy, Respond and Rebuild has provided all of the safety training, equipment and tools to coordinate over 23,000 volunteer hours. We have prepped an/or completed hundreds of homes for mold remediation through the mucking and gutting stage, and remediate an average of 4 homes a week based on a cost-effective mold remediation process that is replicable and scalable, and productivity is increasing.
