Legal Aid Justice Center

Legal Aid Justice Center's mission is to ensure that all people in Virginia, not just those with the means to pay an attorney, have equal access to the legal system. Through legal representation, community education, and advocacy, Legal Aid Justice Center (LAJC) provides civil legal assistance to low-income families and children throughout Central Virginia and to low-wage immigrant workers statewide, while also engaging in systematic legal advocacy to help all low-income Virginians.

Through our Civil Advocacy Program (general civil legal aid) and programs focused specifically on at-risk children (JustChildren) and low-wage immigrant workers (the Virginia Justice Center for Farm and Immigrant Workers), we work both at the case level to ease the consequences of poverty for individual clients and--using community education and advocacy--to effect systemic changes that help eliminate the underlying causes of poverty.

Recognizing that for change to be "real" low-income people must be empowered to advocate on their own behalf, LAJC provides training and mentoring in support of efforts to solve broader problems that threaten to erode the integrity and health of communities, the Commonwealth and beyond.
