About Us

Sean Henry is running for State Senate in the 19th District representing the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Brownsville, East New York, Canarsie, Bergen Beach, Mill Basin and Sheepshead Bay.

Sean spent his life helping others including helping thousands of New Yorkers from entering shelter and finding homeless families good, permanent homes and serving the country with honor in the United States Army. He is now looking to devote himself to helping the people of South and East Brooklyn.

Sean grew up homeless. His family bounced in and out of the shelter system and the streets. This experience affected the way he looks at affordable housing because he knows the stakes.

In 1995, Sean joined the U.S. Army and served in the 863rd Engineer Battalion. During his military career, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon and served as Officer in Charge.

While serving in the Army Reserve, Sean attended Southern Illinois University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Also while in college, Sean joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Following his undergraduate education, Sean moved to Brooklyn in 2000 to attend New York University where he earned a Master’s in Public Administration in 2003. That year he was hired by the Department of Homeless Services where he worked until 2011. Later, he went to provide consulting services to Hudson Guild, a nonprofit organization providing community-based services such as senior services, children and teen services, an arts center and a mental health clinic.
