Description

Become a Mural Arts Program Art Education Partner Site for 2013-2015.

The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program invites schools and community non-profit organizations/agencies that serve youth ages 10-14 or 14-22 to apply to become Art Education Partner Sites. Preference will be given to those applicants serving youth in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. Art Education Partner Sites will host the Mural Arts Program's out-of-school visual arts classes—twice weekly during the school year and five days a week during the summer—for a minimum of 10-15 youth for a two-year period, from September 2013 to June 2015.

Program Goals:

  • YOUTH Exposure:An innovative curricular framework uses project-based learning to foster an awareness of and competency with arts media and technology, the work of emerging and established artists, careers in the arts, and Philadelphia's social, cultural, and artistic resources.
  • YOUTH Voice:Teaching artists develop curriculum and lesson plans that respond to youth issues, events and trends and integrate classroom projects into large-scale public art initiatives.
  • YOUTH Recognition: Students become civically engaged in place-based work in their communities and are empowered to become agents of change through art-making, exhibitions, and public speaking.
