Program description

Advanced Sustainability Training in Nature-Inspired Innovation: Call for Interest:

Biomimicry NYC is working to find at least 20 ecologists and biologists interested in completing a program in advanced sustainability design thinking.

Biomimicry is a science which studies nature's sustainable techniques and applies those strategies to solve man-made challenges and create "innovations inspired by nature".

We are looking specifically for professionals with science based backgrounds, in the New York Metro Region who can translate the language of biology into language that companies can use to look at their challenges through a biological lens.

We need at least 20 individuals to show interest (no commitment made) by the end of this week (2.15.13) in order to show our potential funders that there is demand for this program.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Biomimicry 3.8 (the international trailblazer in this field) has trained many biologists, ecologists, chemists, zoologists, etc. around the world to work with scientists and designers in order to apply Life's Principles of sustainable design to develop new and novel products and processes. In the New York City area, we're working to identify more professionals with science backgrounds who would be interested in these types of opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills.

Based on the level of interest that we can determine in the New York City metro region, we hope to facilitate an education workshop to identify and train a contingent of professionals who can help elevate the conversation around biomimicry innovation.

To reiterate, this is simply a solicitation of interest, in order to obtain funding for the program – there is no commitment at this time.

What you'll learn:

  • A proven method for bringing nature's ideas to the design table
  • Introduction to the biomimetic design process
  • How to apply biological knowledge to design challenges
  • Examples and case studies of biomimetic success stories
  • How to facilitate biomimetic design
  • A whole new way of viewing and valuing the natural and built worlds

What you'll do:

  • Practice applying the tools of biomimicry in a real world scenario
  • Explore nature's genius through field-based activities
  • Solve design challenges by asking, "How would nature do this?"
  • Become acquainted with life's inherently sustainable design principles

How to participate

If you are interested in the program, please email adiel@biomimicrynyc.com with a brief summary of your background and interest in Biomimicry Training, no later than Friday, February 15th at 5pm. Earlier submissions of interest are preferred.
