Programme Description
This MA Creative Writing offers students the opportunity of a high degree of specialisation and the choice of a wide range of taught options should they prefer to develop their writing across a range of genres and contexts. A third of the degree is assessed on a creative writing project on a topic and in a genre of the student's choosing. In addition to core courses which explore the theory and practice of writing, students are also offered a wide range of options affording them the opportunity to take taught courses in the novel, poetry, writing for performance, screen and playwriting, and digital poetics. Students can enhance their employability through work placement options and seminars on publishing, editorial and marketing. We offer a vibrant, engaged creative community to our students. In the last year the team hosted off campus events at the South Bank, Soho Theatre and the TestBed, and held an international cross-genre poetry festival at the University in collaboration with Birkbeck College.
Students are invited to make contributions to respected in-house publications such as Brand literary magazineand the peer reviewed media arts journal Issuesand are expected to participate in and attend scheduled readings and performances at the Old Baths Studio and exhibitions at the Stephen Lawrence Gallery. Students are encouraged and supported in their active participation in affiliated literary, screenwriting and journalism events held at the University and more widely around the capital. All of these offer opportunities for students to develop a public profile and gain valuable work experience.
