Programme Description

The MA English: Literary London offers an opportunity to study the rich and varied literary history of London. Taught by members of the Department of English, Drama and Creative Writing, this exciting programme covers literary periods from the seventeenth to the twenty-first century, and encompasses film, theory and creative work as well as traditional literary scholarship. It will appeal to those wishing to extend their knowledge of literature, to explore varying critical approaches and perspectives, and to broaden their reading within an interdisciplinary, comparative and international context.

The MA English: Literary London is designed as a structured, yet flexible programme. Courses are taught in weekly seminars and termly study days. Classes focus on the close study of literary, theoretical and cultural texts, as well as opportunities for site-specific learning through walks and gallery visits. Students will also pursue supporting courses in research methods and theory and will produce a final dissertation on a subject of their own choice.

A short form of this programme has proven popular amongst University of Ohio students who have attended a short Summer programme on Literary London.
