The Shambala Fellowship Program is for people interested in working in Asia on behalf of Children of Shambala, a small non-profit, non-governmental organization in western China that will be expanding to northern Thailand in 2013.
Our main project is called "Orphanage Without Walls" (OWW), which currently provides opportunities for education and inspiration to orphans in western China . Shambala Fellows will gain valuable work experience with our organization and help support Orphanage Without Walls.
The Shambala Fellowship Program is an innovative program in that it supplants the program fees typical of abroad or volunteer programs. Instead, we seek applicants who demonstrate an enthusiasm for fundraising on behalf of the children in the OWW program. All Fellows accepted into the program will have all expenses paid by COS (including airfare and housing) and receive a monthly stipend.
COS Fellows apply for a position with one of our partner organizations in China, Thailand or Burma. Volunteer responsibilities vary according to location and can include: general program support (e.g. editing English language materials, writing/editing grant proposals), marketing and fundraising, capacity building for staff members, social enterprise development, and field exploration for establishing new OWW sites.
Fellows receive personalized mentorship about fundraising strategies and are responsible for fundraising on behalf of OWW. Applicants include a fundraising plan in their application to be accepted as a Fellow.
To apply to this program, go to www.childrenofshambala.org.
How to Apply:
Step 1. Fill out and submit the Application Form (which can be found on our website: http://www.childrenofshambala.org) and all supplementary application materials.
Step 2. Promising applicants will be invited to a phone/Skype interview.
Step 3. Applicants who pass the first interview will receive an information packet, including detailed fundraising strategies and an outline of our budget. Applicants create a fundraising plan for the year and a personal fundraising goal to support children in the OWW program.*
Step 4. The second interview consists of consulting applicants on their fundraising plans and finalizing a realistic, but challenging, personal fundraising goal. We accept applicants based on their ability to create thoughtful fundraising plans and challenging, but realistic, personal fundraising goals. Fellows are held accountable to these goals. If Fellows show no progress in reaching their personal fundraising goals, their position with SFP may be postponed or cancelled.
Goals and plans will vary by person. Some people with better connections or more fundraising experience might have higher goals. Others who are younger or not be able to fundraise as easily in their home countries will have lower goals.
Step 5: Go to Asia!
Each fellowship lasts for 12 months. For 2013-14 we need 12 Fellows.
