Description

Through the Books From The Heart "Spotligh School" profile, The Heart of America Foundation® highlights one DC Metro Area school monthly. Spotlight Schools need your support so that they can continue to help their students read, succeed and make a difference!

We are proud to announce this month's Spotlight School is Amidon-Bowen Elementary. This school serves about 300 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade and is in its second year of restructuring. They have already seen improvements in students mathematic and English Language Arts (ELA) test scores! Amidon-Bowen received a new library as a recipient of a Target School Library Makeover in partnership with The Heart of America Foundation® in 2011.

You can help Amidon-Bowen Elementary by:

  • Donating school supplies such as markers, dry erase markers and white board cleaner, copy paper and bulletin board decorations.
  • Donating facial tissues, hand sanitizer and Lysol sprays to help keep the students and teachers germ-free!
  • Donating incentives and prizes for Saturday school.
  • Conducting a book drive to collect new books. Amidon-Bowen is specifcially searching for current, non-fiction titles for PS-5th.
  • Making a monetary donation to help Heart of America to purchase books for this school.
