To provide free creative writing workshops, NYWC will partner with programs and social service organizations throughout NYC that serve others that have been historically deprived of voice in our society, including at-risk and disconnected youth, the homeless and formerly homeless, incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals, war veterans, people living with disabilities, cancer and other major illness, immigrants, seniors and others. The program will provide the space and participants, we provide a trained leader to lead the writing workshop.
We also publish our workshop participants' writing via NY Writers Coalition Press and in Dig Deep, NYWC's online literary journal, and organize public reading events that feature workshop participants alongside established authors and poets. Click here to learn more about our mission.
NYWC's workshop method is designed to reduce competition amongst writers and allows writers of all backgrounds, ages, experience levels and genres to work together to grow as writers. Workshop size is limited to ensure that each member receives enough time and attention. Also, NYWC workshops are meant to beongoing and meet once a week between one and two hours.
Thus if you have an organization or social service agency that serves others from the communties previously mentioned and want to find out more about hosting an NYWC workshop at your site, please check out:http://nywriterscoalition.org/become-a-program-partner/.
