"Sharing Smiles Together"
I,Tarkeshwar Singh, writing to you on behalf of SARTHI (a Non Profit making
Voluntary Organization) that works to
facilitate in release and rehabilitation of children from government-run homes
in Patna, Bihar.
know that you're pressed for time. But please, could you give me your full
attention for the next 30 seconds as you read this letter?
see, the children without family, without parental care and support, missing,
abandoned, orphans, neglected, abused or……..(the list could go on)? But had
anyone of you ever imagined that such a children always dreams for having a
sympathetic emotions for them which they rarely found being in Govt. Children
home in Patna where they are presently bound to live in more pathetic
condition. Your kind helping hand may motivate them to learn about their world
is one of the best ways they can learn about themselves and develop their
interests, leading to future careers in engineering, biology, chemistry, and
hundreds of other fields.
History of SARTHI.
SARTHI was established as a
needs-based organization in 2001 by a group of concerned social activists and
professionals who have founded SARTHI after visiting government-run
institutions, such as the homes in Patna, (Bihar's capital) in India. It has
been found that children are being kept for year's n years
without any reason or cause. Oftentimes the parents were unaware of their
children's incarceration. Still other parents, who were aware of the
circumstances, had no financial means to travel to Patna to assist their
children in petitioning for release. Compounding matters was their fear of
becoming involved in complicated and costly legal battles for which they could
not pay resulting feeling helpless in taking back their children.
SARTHI became involved in family tracing and reunification, it is found that in many cases we were able to
reunite children with their parents with as little financial support as INR.
the course of our work, we became aware of myriad interconnected issues that
surround child incarceration. For instance, a child who has suffered abuse and
neglect at home or in a government home has either little or have no idea how
to care for him or herself as an adolescent or adult. We also found that the
children who were not reunited with their families, but who had managed to
escape the government-run home, were likely to become involved in criminal
activity, with a life of incarceration in prison ahead of them.
these reasons SARTHI began working toward child delinquency prevention
and organizing health camps, mass awareness drives psychosocial support and
counseling to provide care health education, awareness to children and
mission is "to work with children to protect and promote the rights of the
children for their holistic development with community involvement. We try to
create a child-friendly society by empowering children and generating mass
awareness with the help of different stakeholders."
work is guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child,
setting out the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of
children. We believe all children should understand their right to survival,
protection, development, and participation.
SARTHI is govt registered not
profit making voluntary organization registered under The Societies
Registration Act, xxi/1860 in Bihar, India, The Foreign Contribution
Regulation Act (FCRA), and the Income Tax Act (registered under 80G of the
Income Tax Act for tax exemption to donors). The donations made are tax
exempted under 80G of IT Act of India.
Knowing that each of your
support/contribution can bring back smiles on the faces of many children who
are waiting to see their parents and eager to say thanks to all of you for
bringing back the joy, peace and happiness filled in their life. So I urge
everyone to join hands in sharing and celebrating the smiles together.
Thank you very much for your patience and
S A R T H I,
