Through dignified work, Basha provides a sustainable livelihood for women at risk and survivors of trafficking. Women gain job skills and the opportunity to develop into leaders and entrepreneurs in a healthy, healing environment.
Basha provides a special working environment where we try to find the balance between compassion and accountability.Basha is not a charity, but we employ women who need prayer, love and compassion. Simultaneously we believe that people reach the standards which are set for them. Our dream is to have Associates become as autonomous as possible in day to day operations, and we intend for them to feel pride and ownership of the business. Shareholders will take no dividends but rather, profits will be returned to the business or distributed amongst the Associates.
Basha currently has both textile and jewelry lines. Our main product is traditional Bengali blankets made of vintage or repurposed sari cloth stitched together with a long striaght sticc, locally called kantha. Our jewelry line uses copper, brass and silver to create fine pieces which incorporate local elements such as sari cloth or recycled components. We currently have retailers around the globe.
Associates are mentored in various topics including English, health and hygiene, Bangla literacy, leadership, and in all aspects of business and life. A day care ensures children are receiving safe care and education while their mother's work. School age children are sponsored and supported in their studies. Basha employs around 70 women and provides day care and educational support for around 60 children. Our dream is to continue to expand in order to provide dignified work for the thousands of women needing a fresh start.
