Altiplano

Altiplano is a small fair trade jewelry and accessory company. Our production is based in Guatemala where we work with cooperative groups, small family businesses, and our own fair trade workshop. Our mission is to create and support long term fair trade employment in the indigenous communities of the rural Guatemalan highlands. We support local artisan craft using traditional techniques such as backstrap weaving. Our contemporary designs enable artisans to create products that are highly marketable in the international marketplace. We work predominantly with women who have very limited economic opportunity, many of whom find employment through our work at home program. They are able to make jewelry at home, earning extra family income, while still being able to attend to domestic needs.
