AMANI KIBERA is a non-profit, non-governmental youth led Community Based Organization whose office is in Mashimoni village Kibera slums, Kenya.
Amani Kibera came into existence in October 2007 during the most tense political campaigns in the Kenyan history. The organization was founded on the principle of nonviolence by four members who later brought on board, CBOs, youth groups, religious institutions and NGOs to form a network of community peace makers.
OUR VISION is to pursue a peaceful, healthy and active society, where each one of us participates in order to assure the dignity and respect for human rights and the equal sustainable sharing of resources.
OUR MISSION is to use integrated actions to improve the conditions of the Kibera community through facilitating initiatives and partnerships that promote peaceful co-existence, health, education, and livelihood opportunities for children, youth and other marginalized groups via capacity building, information dissemination, and promotion of value based sport and cultural interaction for development.
Amani Kibera continues with dedication and involvement in the running and imparting of knowledge to the disadvantaged segment of Kibera slum especially women and children in Kibera.
Our projects programs are born out of experience learnt on the ground and are implemented through Focal Area Committee (FAC) guided by extension personnel social workers. The institution is focused to assist the socially and economically vulnerable groups in the communities.
Being a grassroots organization for peace and development, we continue to enjoy good will and cordial relationship with Kibera community which has facilitated organization of annual peace soccer tournament since 2008, this is besides numerous youth peace and leadership trainings, life skills trainings and organizing kids camps every year. These tireless efforts has won the organization recognitions and a ward as the best community best organization nationally on issues of peace, education and nonviolence in Kenya courtesy of butterfly works and media focus on Africa during the building bridges peace campaign 2010.
Amani Kibera has successfully realized a community library which has won accolades from the communities in , around Kibera and nationally winning the prestigious national Maktaba awards for the best community library of the year 2011 .
