Points of Distribution, POD, is a harm reduction based non-profit organization that provides outreach-based syringe exchange and distribution, HIV testing, basic supplies like food, water and hygeine kits and overdose prevention education and materials mostly to homeless folks in Oakland and San Francisco.
POD has a fundamentally different structure then most non-profit organizations and endeavors to give real power to all essential stakeholders including workers, agency participants and interested community members.
POD is organized as a volunteer-led worker coop with no full-time paid staff.
Decisions are made by workers during monthly business meetings and through a committee structure.
Membership is open to anyone who successfully completes the POD volunteer training and is voted in by the existing members.
