Kathy believes that community media and storytelling are essential to a healthy, vibrant democracy, as are developing mindfulness and deep listening, curiosity, participation, healing and tolerance, all which lead to increased human intelligence and capacity, and critical social change.
Originally from western Maine, Kathy generates impactive intersections between local and regional media, civic engagement, digital storytelling, marketing communications, and non-traditional organizational development. For many years, Kathy has been a dedicated student of Insight Meditation, Non-Violent Communication and has led facilitated retreats, NVC trainings and sessions on marketing, storytelling, filmmaking and adaptive change.
After two decades of working in media, marketing, community organizing, education, at tech start-ups, and in non-profit management, Kathy recently moved from California to Boston where she is the executive director of Brookline Interactive Group (BIG), developing engaged and authentic teams, innovating community-based media projects, manifesting strategic partnerships and implementing new technology, management and operational systems to lead towards new national models.
Kathy is the co-founder of the Public VR Lab, a think tank committed to digital inclusion, public accessibility and community-based immersive storytelling for VR tools.
Kathy has served on a variety of boards, including a four-year term on the national board of directors for the Alliance for Community Media (ACM), and for two years was its fundraising chair.
She has received numerous awards for her video production work, winning a "Best Documentary" award for her social documentary, "Don't Cost Nothin' to Dream," featuring youth in Latin America who are using hip hop as an instrument of hope and change, which can be found at www.bisbeefilms.com.
Kathy can be found kayaking among sea otters in the Monterey Bay, CA, hiking long-distance ancient pilgrimages in Europe, and having some wicked snowball fights in Massachusetts.
