Hmm... we couldn't find that place in our database.
Are you sure it's correct?
My professional objective is to work with a socially responsible and culturally aware organization and engage in the empowerment of citizens and strengthening of community, in a team-oriented environment.
Work at the community level is something that I am very interested in. I find there is something incredibly intriguing about the amount of power a community can hold, and effectively use to make changes that they want to see. I envision myself helping to build that sense of collaboration and cohesiveness in communities anywhere I go.
I am currently working on my Certification in Deaf Studies. While I do want to become an interpreter in the future, my current focus is to be able to do human services work with the Deaf Community. I see my current education endeavor as intense cultural competency training to do that work at the most effective level. While I am learning the language (ASL) and the culture, I hope to expand my work and volunteering experience in this area.
In addition to the Deaf Community, I am also passionate about working with community gardens. I strongly believe that healthy communities produce healthy people. I feel that a healthy community should be able to provide its residents with opportunities to fulfill their social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual needs. Community gardens fascinate me because they are a holistic opportunity in which participants can have all of those needs met.
